Yesterday, the Facebook community engaged in conversations on the topic of heels and christian women. You know how it is; every week comes with its trending topics. The other day it was Oha soup versus Afang, and people found a way to still shade Gbegiri and Egusi in the midst of this war. It was not funny at all. Gbegiri is not anybody’s mate, but we will talk about this some other time.
Okay. So it was a post by a certain Mr. Akande about how christian women who wear heels are of the devil. There’s also that whine-y overly cliched phrase about how the world has become church-y and the church has become worldly…are you yawning yet?
Err, by the way, do you notice how this picture suddenly makes you want to yawn? Amazing right? I know!
And then the he dragged hair extensions and jewelries into it, but that is even so old we’re used to it.
Normally, I would let this slide as I have done the others before it (as a gentle girl that I am), but this one just made me very upset, especially because of the conviction behind it.
So he says the women with the highest heels have the worst marriages and I go like, “Dude, where did you get this statistic? How did you find this ‘deep’ truth out? Do you even know the import of that statement?”
Baba was not ready for what hit him, so when people came to tell him this isn’t the gospel, he went on a blocking spree and deleted their comments, calling them goat-christians, and you wonder why we are this way? You can’t engage in intelligent conversation and you expect to be taken seriously? Commot there!
First off, God doesn’t care what shoes you wear. He cares that your heart is right and that your faith has built in you virtue and character. It’s like saying if you wear a Tee-shirt to preach, you are not serious about your faith. For blessed heaven’s sake, what part of the bible gives you the break down on how to dress to preach? That something is what is common doesn’t make it right or wrong. CEOs wear sneakers and shorts all the time, nobody can arrest them for not donning suits and being CEO-ly.
Secondly, you do not have a monopoly of the divine knowledge of God. God is not about that arrogance. If people are wrong for calling you out, you don’t go about branding them evil, goats or hell-bound. It is not in your place; it is not in anyone’s place for that matter.
In relation to dressing, the bible only speaks against immodesty. Heels are not immodest. They are classy. But it appears anything that would enhance your looks are a no-no in Mr Akande’s books, which isn’t so bad; everyone is allowed to have their preferences. But projecting it on others and making yourself a ‘constituted authority’ in matters you don’t even understand is where the fight will start. Somebody can go and say heel and hell sound alike like that. If I hear pim.
Ahmean, just look at these gorgeous heel sneakers of life and tell me this is not true love.
Uncle, you are wrong sah. Nobody is going to hell for wearing heel shoes. You are not God’s spokesman on this matter especially since you cannot even back up your assertions with the scriptures. You are sentimental about the gospel you have been called to preach, and you are adding a message God has not sent you.
Repent already, and stop being a hothead. Its unchristianly.
